Entrance Fees To National Parks, National Monuments, State Parks

Provincial Parks, Dams, etc. in the USA and Canada

General Comments

United States National Parks, National Monuments, etc

For visitors entering by car, there is a charge per vehicle, regardless of the number of passengers. For visitors entering by other means, there is a charge per person.

In the majority of NPS areas entrance fees are paid at entrance booths situated on the entrance roads as approach each area. The ranger who takes your payment and gives you your receipt will also give you a leaflet with a map and a description of the area, and in many cases also a newspaper giving further information about the area. Be sure to ask for these items if they aren't automatically offered to you.

Where a through road passes through an NPS area a charge is normally made even if you will only be passing through without stopping.

In a few areas payment is made on foot at the visitor centre.

There is no charge for using the Blue Ridge Parkway or the Natchez Trace Parkway.

United States State Parks

Canadian National Parks

In most cases there are no entrance payment booths, and payment is made on foot at the visitor centre, where you can also collect maps and leaflets.

The US National Parks Service Golden Eagle Passport is not valid for Canadian National Parks.

I do not know if ParksCanada, the Canadian National Parks Service, operates a pass similar to the Golden Eagle Passport.
