The old quarter

Start around Sant Esteve and the stone lanes of the historic centre. Casa de la Vall, once the parliament building, helps put this small country’s political history into focus. Check the museum’s current access before counting on an interior visit.

A little height, a different view

The Rec del Solà path offers a hillside perspective over the capital. Choose a section suited to your fitness and footwear; access involves slopes and steps. Return to the centre for a less demanding riverside stroll.

Leave a little room in the day

Meritxell Avenue and neighbouring Escaldes form a lively urban stretch. Combine the old quarter with a café stop rather than trying to tick off every shop. Santa Coloma makes a rewarding separate heritage outing.

A day that leaves room to enjoy it

Begin in the old quarter, pause for lunch, then choose either a hillside walk or time along the river. Add Escaldes on another half-day if a spa visit is part of the plan.

Allow a day for the capital, or use it as a base.
