The story behind the information

Useful guides.
Clear sources. Honest context.

A good discovery deserves good information. Here is how we distinguish our travel ideas, business listings and personal recommendations, and how you can help keep them accurate.

Who publishes this guide?

The American Tour Association, founded in 1989 and led by Manfred K. Wallner. Our planner brings together ATA travel experience, destination research and published visitor information.

What does a listing mean?

A starting point for planning and direct contact. It does not automatically mean an inspection, a guest review, ATA membership or a hotel-rate agreement.

How our hotel options work →
Sources and meaningful dates

Our standard for new and revised guides is to use primary information where possible, including tourism offices, attraction operators, museums, transport providers and the businesses themselves. Source links should show what they support. Automated research or drafting tools are not evidence on their own.

A date must say what was checked, such as a contact number or a visitor-resource link. A page update is not proof that every business was contacted, visited or inspected. Older pages are being improved progressively, coverage and source detail vary.

Photographs, videos and illustrated maps

Our standard is to identify the creator, source and licence of third-party photographs in a caption or page credits, and disclose relevant cropping or changes. A destination photograph should not be presented as a photograph of a particular hotel. Illustrated maps and generated illustrations should be identified as illustrations.

Embedded films remain the work of their named creators. Older archive images may have less complete attribution. Please tell us about a missing credit or a permission concern so it can be investigated.

Hotel information and direct contact

Our country directories contain basic business records. They are different from our selected accommodation introductions. A listing does not, by itself, mean ATA membership, sponsorship, an inspection or a negotiated rate agreement.

Contact the property for current rates, facilities and booking terms. Individuals, families and small groups needing fewer than 15 rooms can arrange stays directly. For 15 rooms or more, ATA can use an existing agreement where available, or negotiate for the group when needed. Find a hotel or request group rates.

Personal recommendations and guest reviews

An ATA description is an editorial introduction, not a guest review score. When we identify a personal recommendation, we explain whose experience it reflects and disclose a relevant personal connection. We do not invent guest experiences or present another platform’s reviews as our own.

Our past references concern experiences with ATA’s services. They are not reviews of every hotel or attraction in the planner. Any future guest-review feature must clearly separate visitor contributions from ATA’s own descriptions.

Memberships, sponsorship and independence

Our standard is to label paid promotional placements clearly as Sponsored. Membership or sponsorship should not be presented as an independent guest rating or a guarantee of service quality. Ordinary directory inclusion does not by itself establish a commercial relationship.

Business-supplied descriptions and personal recommendations should be identified. Please flag a placement if its commercial status is unclear.

Corrections and continuing maintenance

Readers and business owners can report a wrong detail, broken link, closure, missing photo credit or an unclear claim. Include the page address, the correction and a supporting source where possible. A report is a request for review, not an automatic edit.

For each substantial revision, our publishing checklist calls for relevant primary sources, an honest check date, clear business contacts, photo credits and working links. We prioritise practical changes that affect a visit, including closures, booking contacts and access information.

Found something we should fix?

Send the page address, what needs changing and a supporting link if you have one. For photo-credit or permission concerns, identify the image and its source.
