Sea on one side, desert on the other

Moçâmedes, also widely known as Namibe, is the provincial coastal capital. Its waterfront, fishing life and older buildings provide an introduction before any journey further into the desert.

Decide how far to go

Lagoa dos Arcos, the Curoca formations and Iona National Park are separate regional possibilities, not stops to add casually to an afternoon drive. Ask a specialist operator about the route, vehicle, permissions and supplies for your exact trip.

Notice the smaller things

The region’s desert landscape includes welwitschia plants as well as dramatic landforms. Keep to appropriate established routes and avoid disturbing plants or sites. Good local guidance helps you see details without damaging what brought you here.

Give the day room to unfold

Begin with the town and coast, then arrange a specific desert outing. Do not turn a city transfer into an improvised remote-area expedition.
