Many communities and many stories

Australia’s people bring many backgrounds and experiences. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures are living and diverse. A locally hosted experience can give a perspective that a general country introduction cannot.

Let your interests start the conversation

Markets, galleries, sport and a good meal offer different ways into everyday life. Ask people about their own place and experience, rather than expecting one person to speak for everybody.

Leave a little space

Plan enough time for a proper greeting and an unhurried visit. A café table is occasionally a very useful piece of sightseeing equipment.

Give the day room to unfold

Ask about locally led cultural experiences and current community events that welcome visitors.
