More than a fuel stop

Give the surrounding pan landscape time with a local guide. Birdlife depends on season and water; flamingos are never guaranteed.

Keep off uncertain surfaces

Wet pan crust can be hazardous for vehicles. Confirm access and routes locally instead of driving onto an apparently firm open surface.

Give the day room to unfold

Choose one main outing for each day and leave time for meals and the journey back. Confirm access, transport and any guided arrangements before setting out.
