Notice how the courtyard and house relate to one another. The colour, vegetation and transition between rooms are part of the experience.

Museo Frida Kahlo
The Casa Azul offers an intimate encounter with Frida Kahlo through the home, objects and spaces associated with her life.

The place and its story
Why it deserves time
In Coyoacán, the blue-walled house connects an internationally recognized artist to a particular domestic world. This was Kahlo’s family home and a place where she and Diego Rivera lived. The museum experience includes personal surroundings as well as art, so it rewards attention to rooms, materials and everyday objects. It should not be approached as a comprehensive survey of every famous Kahlo painting: works and displays have their own histories, and exhibitions can change.

Slow down and notice
Three things to look for
Read the labels on personal objects rather than treating them simply as decorative details. They help distinguish documented biography from the myths surrounding a celebrated artist.
Leave time for the wider Coyoacán neighbourhood. Its plazas and streets provide context for the house without needing to add another major museum.
Make a thoughtful visit
Plan your visit
Reserve through the museum’s official website and follow the entry time and visitor rules on your ticket. Popular times can sell out; do not rely on arriving without arrangements. Plan about ninety minutes for the museum, plus waiting and travel time, and ask about photography and accessibility before visiting. Coyoacán is a separate journey from the historic centre, so allow a generous transfer margin.
Time allowances are ATA planning suggestions, not opening hours. Confirm admission, availability and access directly before travelling.
