An historic centre, mission church and gallery district offer an art-focused contrast to Cabo San Lucas’s marina and beach scene.
The place and its story
Why it deserves time
San José del Cabo is a different town from Cabo San Lucas, connected by the coastal corridor. Its central streets gather around the mission church and plaza, with galleries in the adjoining art district. Contemporary painting, sculpture and design sit within a compact architectural setting. The seasonal Thursday Art Walk adds a lively programme, but galleries can also be enjoyed outside that event when they are open. The atmosphere should not be confused with a guarantee that every studio or exhibition is available daily.

In a gallery, ask about artists and materials rather than treating the visit as a shop window circuit.
Compare historic façades with contemporary work inside. The contrast is part of the district’s appeal.

Plan a half-day or evening with transport from Cabo San Lucas or your corridor hotel. Check the current Art Walk season and programme through the official destination site if that is the reason for your visit. Reserve return transport when staying for an evening event. Cobblestones and warm weather call for comfortable shoes and water. Ask permission before photographing artwork.
