Useful choices and official sources for turning a country full of possibilities into a comfortable, rewarding journey.
Documents & entry
Check requirements for your own nationality and passport with the Moroccan authorities and your carrier. Where applicable, use the official Accès Maroc portal for eVisa and authorisation information, rather than assuming every nationality follows the same process.
Book the exact route and station with ONCF, then plan the taxi, coach or hotel transfer. Distinguish Casa Port from Casa Voyageurs, Rabat Ville from Rabat Agdal and Tanger Ville from ferry terminals. A station name does not establish the final luggage route.
Ask which gate or square to use, where a vehicle can stop and whether someone can meet you with luggage. Riad staircases and rooftop spaces vary. Confirm the actual room, air-conditioning or heating arrangements, bathrooms, cancellation terms and accessibility directly.
Do not assume all mosques are open to sightseeing. Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca publishes a specific guided visitor programme through its foundation. Other religious sites, madrasas, museums and private buildings have their own rules.
A route across the Atlas and an Erg Chebbi stay need more than a map distance. Confirm the road, operator, breaks, exact accommodation, final transfer and weather alternative. Choose activities and animal experiences carefully, with facilities and suitability explained before booking.
Adapt walking to heat, exposed coastal weather and the group’s pace. Check public holidays, religious calendars and the actual opening programme for your dates. Arrange meal and dietary needs directly, and carry a workable payment alternative for smaller businesses.
Choose an imperial-city chapter, an Atlantic stay or a southern kasbah journey before adding a desert extension. The northern rail corridor and the road journeys beyond Marrakech are different planning problems.
Medina luggage walks, mountain crossings and the final approach to a desert camp all need time of their own. Leave room for lunch, a slower walker and a discovery that was not on the original list.
Official visitor resources are linked beside the information they support. Hotel contacts use published property or official tourism information. Suggested stays and routes are editorial ideas, not confirmed schedules. Sources reviewed October 27, 2026.
