Canada officially uses metric units and these are in wider use than in Britain, but in both countries many older people still tend to use Imperial units.
The conversion factors on this page are approximate values suitable for everyday purposes. They should not be used for precise calculations.

Areas
To convert from acres to hectares, multiply by 0.4.
Weights
To convert from pounds to kilograms, multiply by 0.45.
Liquid Measure
To convert from US gallons to Imperial (UK) gallons, multiply by 0.8.
Petrol (Gas) Consumption
To convert from miles per US gallon to miles per Imperial (UK) gallon, multiply by 1.2.
