Location
Natchez is on the east bank of the Mississippi River and therefore it also lies on the Great River Road.
Description
The outskirts of Natchez are quite pleasant and have all the usual facilities. The Natchez Trace Parkway terminates and joins US61 a few miles north of Natchez, so if you're approaching on the Parkway then US61 is the road by which you will enter town.
The majestic bridge across the Mississippi to Louisiana is toll free and affords a spectacular view.
The Natchez riverfront area with its casino riverboats is worth a look.
However, the old downtown area of Natchez is sadly extremely run-down, and we observed some grim reminders there that not all parts of America are prosperous.
