At the edge of the highlands

Tundavala is an escarpment viewpoint near Lubango. Its appeal is the sudden change from plateau to open space; clear visibility makes a considerable difference to the experience.

A viewpoint, not a balancing act

Keep well back from cliff edges and follow local advice about safe access. Wear suitable shoes and take a layer. The wide photograph is quite impressive without anyone standing on the very last rock.

Leave room for cloud

Arrange your visit with a local driver and check the forecast. If visibility is poor, change the order of the day rather than treating the original plan as a binding agreement with the weather.

Give the day room to unfold

Arrange the excursion with a reputable local provider, check conditions and return transport, and stay on established access routes.
