Begin on the plateau

Lubango is the principal city of Huíla’s highlands. Cristo Rei overlooks the city, while the plateau provides a different setting from the Atlantic coast. Build in a quieter arrival day before longer excursions.

Two highland outings

Tundavala is an escarpment viewpoint; Serra da Leba is a winding mountain-road excursion. They are distinct visits with different access and weather considerations. Discuss each with a local driver rather than assuming both fit into a rushed transfer.

People before photographs

Markets and local communities are part of everyday life, not a staged attraction. Ask before taking photographs and let a locally knowledgeable guide explain customs. Carry a layer for a highland outing even if the coast was hot.

Give the day room to unfold

Choose one major landscape outing per day and adjust to visibility. If cloud has swallowed the view, the sensible itinerary changes with it.
