Anguilla · A closer look

What are Anguilla’s people like?

The island is more than its beaches: take time for the people, working harbours and local traditions.

Make room for everyday encounters

Hospitality is part of a visitor’s experience, but people are more than the welcome desk. Ask a host about the village, a local dish or the history behind a building. Different people will have different stories.

A passion under sail

Boat racing is a strong Anguillian tradition, with boats, crews and supporters giving the events their character. Check the current calendar and follow advice on suitable viewing places. You do not need to understand every tactic to appreciate the enthusiasm.

A small courtesy goes a long way

Start with a greeting, ask before photographing someone and change out of beachwear for other public settings. If lunch takes a little longer than expected, there are worse places to practise patience.

Give the day room to unfold

Ask your host about current cultural events and an appropriate way to join in. Respect people’s privacy and the working life of each place.
