More than a visitor performance

Vodun traditions form part of living communities and belief. Work through trusted local hosts, accept limits on entry and photography, and respect a decision not to share a ceremony.

Make room for the present

Cotonou and Porto-Novo have active arts scenes alongside heritage sites. An exhibition, workshop or hosted conversation can add a contemporary voice to a journey through royal and coastal history.

Agree the visit clearly

Ask about language, fees, group size and what the host is comfortable sharing. Photographs and recordings require permission; a warm welcome is not blanket access to someone’s private life.

Give the day room to unfold

Ask a cultural centre or established local host about current exhibitions and guided visits. Confirm the arrangement directly before arrival.
