Before you set out

Planning your Bosnia and Herzegovina visit

A little planning leaves more time for the places you came to see. Choose a manageable route, confirm your transport and check current entry and local access requirements.

Check entry and registration

Confirm passport, visa and accommodation registration requirements for your nationality. Read current official travel advice and check insurance for your activities.

Stay on established routes

Mines and unexploded weapons remain in some rural and abandoned areas. Do not explore ruins or leave established roads and cleared paths without experienced local guidance.

Leave time for the roads

Mountain roads, weather and border queues can change the day. Confirm the actual route and avoid planning a full sightseeing programme around an uncertain transfer.

Respect the place and its histories

Use knowledgeable local guides for recent-history and religious visits. Ask permission for photographs and respect services, memorials and private homes.

Confirm accommodation and access

Ask directly about rooms, vehicle access, steps, parking and meals. A listed business contact does not establish ATA membership or a booking.
