Coastal forest, wildlife watching and a beach beyond the trees.
Manuel Antonio combines a compact coastal national park with a much larger hotel and beach area. Give the forest its own early visit, then leave space for the coast rather than expecting one entrance ticket to organise your holiday.
Separate the national-park day from time in Quepos and on the surrounding coast. In the forest, patient observation gives wildlife room and makes small details easier to notice. A beach stop then becomes a change of pace rather than the sole purpose of entering the park. Outside its boundary, arrange your own meals, transport and coastal outings, keeping enough flexibility for rain, sea conditions and the journey back to your hotel.

Look a little closer
The story behind the place.
The essential distinction is between the national park, the public beaches outside it and the hillside hotel corridor from Quepos. Transport, stairs and slopes can shape your stay as much as the view from a room. A naturalist can help you notice wildlife without crowding it.

Manuel Antonio National Park
Let the forest walk be a visit in its own right. Follow the designated paths, looking into the vegetation as well as toward the coast, and give animals space rather than trying to move closer for a photograph. A suitable guide can help interpret what you see. Choose a manageable route and leave time for rest and the return to the entrance.
Plan your visitBuy admission through official SINAC services. The park currently closes on Tuesdays. Check opening days, your entry slot and permitted items before travelling.

The park beaches
The beaches provide a striking contrast with the shaded trails, but the visit still depends on park access and the conditions on the day. Choose a place to pause without blocking paths or disturbing wildlife. Swimming requires a separate judgement about waves, currents and instructions; a calm-looking photograph does not establish that the water is safe when you arrive.
Plan your visitSwim only where conditions are suitable and follow local instructions. Do not feed animals or leave food accessible.

Quepos & the coast outside the park
Give Quepos its own place in the stay through a meal, a short walk and time among the town’s shops. The coast beyond the park has separate access and transport needs, so agree the return journey before setting out. This is a useful alternative to treating every day as another attempt to enter the same protected area.
Plan your visitArrange return transport and check sea conditions. The coastal road can be busy and the park itself has no official car park.
Keep your reserved park morning free of other commitments.
Return for lunch and rest, then choose a suitable beach or pool afternoon.
Use a separate day for Quepos or a confirmed coastal excursion.

Make the visit work for you
Plan a comfortable outing.
Allow time
3 nights. This is our suggested planning allowance, not a published opening time.
Eat & drink
Compare seafood menus and ask whether prices are per portion or by weight. Quepos and the hotel corridor offer different settings, so factor in your return ride.
Families, groups & accessible visits
Ask the venue about shade, toilets, steps and suitable routes before travel. For an organised group, confirm arrival slots, guide languages and coach access. We have not independently audited accessibility.
Season & conditions
Pacific rain and sea conditions vary through the year. Heavy rain can affect trails, roads and boat departures, so leave flexibility around outdoor plans.
Fewer than 15 rooms? Contact the hotel directly. These published contacts are suggestions, not personal inspections, availability promises or confirmation of group capacity. Check operating arrangements before paying.
Large groups, 15 rooms or more
Ask ATA for low group hotel rates.
We use existing hotel agreements where available and negotiate for your group when needed, backed by over 35 years of group travel experience.
We respond within 48 hours, allowing for time zones worldwide. “Instant” rates do not always give you the lowest rates.
Arrive via Quepos and confirm your hotel’s location on the hill or near the beach. Use an arranged transfer or current local transport information, not an assumed walk along the whole road.
