North of Brno, wooded valleys conceal an extraordinary limestone world. Make the Punkva Caves and Macocha Abyss your first encounter, then leave time for the quiet landscape that holds them.
Water has spent immense stretches of time working through the limestone, opening passages, carving valleys and leaving the formations that now make a cave visit feel like a journey through natural architecture.
The guided Punkva route combines decorated chambers with the bottom of the Macocha Abyss and, on the normal full route, a boat journey along the underground Punkva River. Looking up from the depths to a patch of daylight is part of the wonder.
One landscape, several different visits.
The Moravian Karst is a region, not one cave with one ticket. Other show caves include Balcarka, Kateřinská, Sloup–Šošůvka and Výpustek. Choose a particular route and reserve it, rather than arriving with only “Moravian Karst” in your plans.

Book the cave, then plan the approach.
Punkva is especially popular on weekends and in summer. Reserve ahead, confirm the meeting point and tour language, and check the route operating on your date.
The cave is chilly, around 7–8°C, even when the weather outside feels like summer. Wear a warm layer and shoes that grip. Ask about stairs, enclosed spaces and the boat section if these affect anyone in your party.
The standard route is not fully accessible. Limited wheelchair visits to the dry section require prior arrangements with the cave team. Pushchairs cannot be taken on the tour.
For public transport, check trains to Blansko and an onward bus to Skalní mlýn. From there, the cave operator describes an approach of about 1.6 km on foot or by the local road train.
Drivers can use the paid parking at Skalní mlýn. Parking near Macocha involves a different approach, with seasonal transport arrangements. Check these before choosing a meeting time.
Do not treat arrival at the car park as arrival at your tour. Allow time for the transfer, ticket collection and a relaxed start.
