Build the journey around a few regions, with enough time for the monuments, living cities and the transfers between them.
Entry & visa arrangements
Check the current visa and passport rules for your nationality through the Egyptian authorities. A permission limited to a particular arrival or region should not be assumed to cover a wider journey. Use the official application route and confirm the requirements before committing to the itinerary.
Read current official travel advice for the specific regions and roads on your plan, then check permissions and insurance. Do this before arranging remote desert travel or a Sinai transfer. Our country map is an orientation aid, not a statement that every route is open or suitable.
Compare the real flight or train schedule and the final transfer, rather than only the advertised journey time. For a cruise, ask for the exact embarkation point, sailing programme, guide language, included entrances and optional charges; a cruise name does not describe every visit.
Major collections and archaeological sites have separate ticketing systems. Check which galleries, tombs or special areas are included and open. Arrange a licensed guide where historical interpretation matters, with a programme that leaves time to look and rest.
Choose sensible periods for exposed sites and leave a substantial break in a hot day. Ask about the exact route, steps, shade, seating and toilets. A museum, a rock-cut tomb and a boat landing have different access requirements; check the chosen experience individually.
Confirm the exact hotel, current operation, room access, meal plan and full charges directly. For a Red Sea activity, ask about operator credentials, equipment, supervision, environmental practice and weather alternatives. Choose activities and insurance that match what you will actually do.
A first journey can focus on Cairo and the Nile cities, or combine a shorter cultural programme with one coastal stay. Adding Alexandria, Fayoum or Sinai changes the transport pattern and needs more days. Leave space between major collections and long transfers; a smaller number of properly understood visits makes a more rewarding trip.
