Hidalgo travel guide
Hidalgo offers mountain towns and outdoor places that reward a carefully chosen base. Metztitlán combines a town visit with the surrounding canyon landscape, while La Cercada lies in the El Chico National Park area. These are different outings, not two names for the same destination.

Choose Metztitlán when your interests include a settlement’s history and its wider landscape. For the El Chico area, establish the exact trail, elevation, guide arrangements and current access before planning a walk. A route described as short can still be demanding because of terrain and exposure.
Plan the visit around your route
Build time for weather changes and the return journey into your day. Ask a local operator about suitability for children or anyone with limited mobility instead of relying only on distance. The official state directory also offers other destinations, including the Basaltic Prisms, so you can compare options before committing to a route.
