Abel Tasman coast

Golden coves, coastal walking and a plan that respects the tides.

Abel Tasman offers several different experiences: a short walk, a boat-supported day, a guided kayak outing or a multi-day track. Choose the version that suits your group and arrange the complete route instead of assuming every cove is connected by an easy unrestricted path.

Why it deserves time

Look beyond the photograph.

The pleasure lies in time along the coast, with forest, headlands and bays changing the view. Give the walking section enough room and respect wildlife, other walkers and designated landing places.

Booking & timing

Make the outing work.

Check DOC’s current track and tidal-crossing information. Huts and campsites need reservations; a water taxi has its own schedule and boarding points. Arrange the road transfer, actual walking section and return boat as one compatible plan.

Access & practical needs.

Ask about beach boarding, steps, wet landings and walking surfaces. Tides, weather and sea conditions can change the practical route. Kayaking requires an operator and experience suited to the day.

Where to base yourself.

Nelson is one possible base for a separately arranged outing. Match the exact transport, visit and return connection before reserving.
