SEE HOW THE PLACES FIT TOGETHER

Find your way around.

Select a pin or place name to open its guide directly. Gold marks the first-time highlights, teal the places beyond the beaten path.

Orientation only: approximate city positions, with leader lines for nearby cities. Boundary data: Natural Earth, public domain ↗. New Zealand shown for orientation. Not a road or transport map; this first selection does not cover every region.

Build your own journey

Places to combine in one trip.

North Island by chapter

Begin in Auckland, give Rotorua time for hosted cultural and geothermal visits, then make Wellington a stay of its own. The roads between them need proper travel days.

Canterbury & the marine coast

Pair Christchurch with Kaikōura for city gardens, regional stories and a weather-dependent marine experience. Add buffer time before onward transport.

Southern lakes & Otago

Choose Wānaka and Queenstown for contrasting lake bases, then give Dunedin and the peninsula their own coastal chapter. Fiordland remains a separately planned extension.

These are route ideas, not packaged tours or confirmed transport schedules. Adjust the number of stops and nights to your pace; separate transfers need time of their own.

A FEW USEFUL ESSENTIALS

Before you travel.

Distances need real time

Mountain roads, ferry check-in and weather make map distances a poor substitute for a comfortable plan. Confirm the full transfer before booking an activity.

NZ Transport Agency →

Outdoor plans stay flexible

Use DOC for tracks, closures, hut bookings and conditions. A famous mountain walk is not automatically suitable for every visitor.

Entry & arrival

Check your own visa or NZeTA requirements with Immigration New Zealand and arrival declarations with the official authorities.

Care for the place

Follow Tiaki guidance, respect Māori hosts and keep wildlife undisturbed. Choose activities for their interpretation and suitability as well as their views.
