Before you set out

Planning your United Kingdom visit

A little planning leaves more time for the places you came to see. Choose a manageable route, confirm your transport and check current entry and local access requirements.

Check entry permission

Confirm whether your passport requires a visa or Electronic Travel Authorisation using GOV.UK. Do not assume rules for entry to Ireland are identical to UK rules.

Choose a manageable route

London, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland cannot all be treated as short day trips. Confirm train, flight, road and ferry connections.

Book popular visits directly

Timed admission and seasonal opening vary. Confirm the exact ticket, date, meeting point and cancellation terms with the venue.

Ask about access

Historic buildings, hills, walls and cobbled streets can involve steps and uneven surfaces. Confirm appropriate routes and assistance before booking.

Confirm hotel arrangements

Ask directly about room types, meals, parking, coach access and total charges. Public contacts do not establish ATA membership.
