Baku

A walled old town, a long waterfront and museums that put the country’s stories in context.

Start inside the walls

Walk Icherisheher’s lanes, with the Maiden Tower and the Palace of the Shirvanshahs as your bearings. A local guide can help connect the buildings with the city’s trading past.

Then make room for the water

The seaside boulevard offers a change of pace after the old town. Choose a museum or a waterfront walk rather than treating the whole capital as a quick stop.

Give Baku a second day

Keep a separate day for Gobustan instead of squeezing its rock-art reserve into an already crowded city afternoon.

Give the day room to unfold

Choose one main outing for each day and leave time for meals and the journey back. Confirm access, transport and any guided arrangements before setting out.
