Leave a morning for town

San Ignacio and neighbouring Santa Elena are useful bases for western Belize. Start with the market and a local breakfast rather than heading straight out on every day of the trip.

Choose your archaeology

Xunantunich requires a separate transfer. Cahal Pech is nearer town, but still needs time and a suitable approach. Choose sites for their stories rather than trying to collect as many as possible.

Give the day room to unfold

Choose one main outing for each day and leave time for meals and the journey back. Confirm access, transport and any guided arrangements before setting out.
