Coastal stays, mountain villages and ancient sites work best when you plan the connections as carefully as the highlights.
Entry & documents
Check passport, visa and permitted entry-point requirements for your nationality through the Republic of Cyprus authorities. If a crossing forms part of the itinerary, check the current documents, vehicle cover and crossing rules separately. Do not infer them from the island outline on a tourist map.
Larnaca and Paphos airports serve different parts of the island. Price the final transfer as well as the flight. Intercity routes connect the larger towns, while village trips, airport services and local coastal buses need their own timetable check.
Cyprus drives on the left. For mountain villages, check the road and parking approach as well as the distance. Arrange a driver if wine tasting is planned, and check any rental restrictions before using rural tracks or planning a crossing.
Choose the archaeological sites that interest you and check their actual opening days. Painted churches and active religious buildings have different visitor rules. For workshops, tastings and group tours, agree the language, duration and meeting point directly.
Use the forecast for the part of the island you will visit. Exposed ruins and cliff paths need a different plan from town pavements; forest trails can be slippery or unsuitable after bad weather. Ask about the exact accessible route, toilets and seating before committing a group.
Choose between an old-town address, coastal resort and mountain stay deliberately. Confirm room access, total charges and evening meals in small villages. Check current official travel advice and insurance for the route you have chosen before booking.
Begin with one coastal base and a small number of worthwhile outings. Add Nicosia or a mountain overnight because you want that experience, not because every day must cover the island. Leave a free afternoon between substantial archaeological visits, and make a long transfer its own part of the itinerary.
