Mexico City travel guide
Mexico City is a federal entity in its own right, separate from the surrounding State of Mexico. Our city guide begins with the Centro Histórico, Chapultepec and the Museo Frida Kahlo in Coyoacán: three rewarding starting points that involve different parts of the capital.
← Back to the Mexico mapChoose your starting point
Group your visits by area. The historic centre works as a walk with pauses for museums and food; Chapultepec can occupy much of a day; Coyoacán deserves time beyond a single booked museum slot. Confirm admission arrangements for specific museums before fixing the rest of your schedule.
Plan the visit around your route
Choose accommodation around the places you most want to explore and the transport you intend to use. Leave a buffer between timed bookings rather than assuming a cross-city transfer will be quick. For Teotihuacán and other places outside the capital, consult the separate State of Mexico guide and plan the journey explicitly.
