Look at the church and surrounding rooflines from different sides of the square. The town’s layered hillside setting is part of the view.

Plaza Borda and Taxco’s hillside streets
Taxco’s central square is a place to get your bearings before choosing how far to venture into the hillside streets.

The place and its story
Why it deserves time
Plaza Borda sits in front of Santa Prisca, surrounded by the compact fabric of the historic centre. From here, the town’s steep terrain becomes apparent: white walls, tiled roofs and narrow streets fit the hills rather than a flat grid. The square works as a pause between visits and a viewpoint on daily life. A good walk is deliberately short and flexible, because apparent proximity on a map can conceal stairs and significant climbing.

Slow down and notice
Three things to look for
Follow one or two streets slowly, noticing balconies, doors and small shops. Watch for vehicles on narrow stretches.
Use the square as a meeting point before members of a group explore separately. Agree on the exact place and time.
Make a thoughtful visit
Plan your visit
Check the Guerrero travel advisory before considering the journey. Where current circumstances support a visit, allow ninety minutes to two hours for the square and a short circuit. Wear shoes with good grip and ask about a suitable route if mobility is limited. Take breaks and arrange a vehicle pickup point that can actually be reached by the chosen transport.
Time allowances are ATA planning suggestions, not opening hours. Confirm admission, availability and access directly before travelling.
