Guanajuato travel guide
Guanajuato state contains both Guanajuato city and San Miguel de Allende. Our guides treat them as separate bases: Guanajuato brings mining history, plazas and hillside lanes; San Miguel combines its central square with art spaces and the landscape of El Charco del Ingenio.

In Guanajuato city, connect the Alhóndiga de Granaditas with time in the historic streets, then consider La Valenciana as a distinct extension. In San Miguel, the Jardín and Parroquia are a natural starting point, while Fábrica La Aurora and the botanical garden deserve their own time.
Plan the visit around your route
Choose accommodation by location and access, not just by a historic-centre label. Ask about steps, luggage drop-off and vehicle access in either city. If visiting both, give each an overnight stay when possible rather than spending most of a short visit transferring. Check current official advice for your intended route.
