Querétaro travel guide

Querétaro’s Sierra Gorda missions offer a focused way to explore the relationship between architecture, communities and landscape. Concá and Jalpan are two distinct mission sites with richly detailed façades. They deserve time for observation rather than a hurried stop simply to collect a photograph.

Choose your starting point

Choose the mission stops that fit your available days, then establish the route and overnight base. A map can make mountain journeys look shorter than they feel on the road. Confirm current access to interiors and remember that these are religious places as well as heritage attractions.

Plan the visit around your route

For a different part of the state, the official destination directory introduces Amealco, Cadereyta and Bernal. Compare these with the Sierra Gorda before combining them into a trip. Leave time for town visits and meals, and ask about terrain and walking requirements when choosing an excursion for a mixed-age group.
