State of México travel guide

The State of Mexico surrounds much of Mexico City but is a separate federal entity. Teotihuacán is one major starting point, with the neighbouring towns of San Juan Teotihuacán and San Martín de las Pirámides offering additional context beyond the archaeological zone.

Choose your starting point

Treat Teotihuacán as its own excursion. Check current access, ticket arrangements and permitted routes with the site operator. Allow for exposed walking and uneven ground, and choose a pace suited to everyone in the party. Time in a nearby town can add another perspective if your schedule allows.

Plan the visit around your route

Aculco and La Concepción waterfall are different destinations, not extensions of a Teotihuacán walk. Check the route, seasonal conditions and local access arrangements before planning a nature visit. Use the official directory to compare areas and choose accommodation around the places you intend to see rather than relying on the broad label Mexico.
