Parque de la Marimba

Tuxtla’s marimba park is a place to listen, watch and join the city’s social rhythm when music is being played.

The place and its story

Why it deserves time

The marimba has a strong place in Chiapas’s musical life, and the Parque de la Marimba gives that identity a public setting in Tuxtla Gutiérrez. Its appeal is not a large collection of monuments but the atmosphere created by musicians, dancers and people spending time together. Programmes and performance times can change, so the park is best approached with flexibility. Even a short visit becomes richer if you listen to the arrangement and the interaction between players rather than using the music only as background.

Slow down and notice

Three things to look for

01

When musicians are playing, watch how several performers share the instrument and divide the musical lines.

02

Leave room for dancers and ask before photographing individuals closely. Join in only where it is welcomed.

03

Take time to sit and observe the park as a neighbourhood gathering place rather than hurrying through for a picture.

Make a thoughtful visit

Plan your visit

Plan an hour or so, and confirm the current music schedule locally before making a special journey. Arrange your return transport and choose a sensible meeting point for a group. Keep belongings close in crowds. If there is no performance, avoid treating that as a failed visit: the surrounding city still offers places to pause, eat and explore.

Time allowances are ATA planning suggestions, not opening hours. Confirm admission, availability and access directly before travelling.
