Oaxaca travel guide
Oaxaca state contains several very different travel areas. Our Oaxaca city guide connects Monte Albán with Santo Domingo, markets and textile traditions. Mountain communities such as Capulálpam de Méndez and coastal places such as Puerto Ángel call for additional planning rather than being treated as nearby city stops.

For a city-based visit, pair a cultural quarter or market with time to understand what you are seeing. Monte Albán deserves a separate excursion and a realistic assessment of sun, steps and uneven ground. At workshops, ask who made an item and whether a demonstration or visit needs arranging.
Plan the visit around your route
Choose a mountain or coastal extension according to the time you actually have. Check the route, transfers and an appropriate overnight base before adding it to your itinerary. Local community rules, weather and operating conditions can affect outdoor visits. The official links below help distinguish these areas and their different visitor experiences.
